The building codes are truly a complex labyrinth-- there are multiple code categories, multiple editions/revisions within each category, and every state has adopted different revisions (some with addendums) and maintains different adoption schedules which are typically poorly communicated since they are tied to state legislature politics. WGBES primarily practices in three states: SC, NC and GA. Therefore, the purpose of this page is to provide a summary of the required building codes in each of these states as a resource to clients, colleagues, and friends.

The 2018 South Carolina Codes have been adopted by the Building Codes Council, and the modifications to the Codes have been approved by the General Assembly. The Codes with their modifications are effective as of January 1, 2020*.

This codes include the 2018 International Building Code, the 2018 International Mechanical Code, the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code, the 2018 International Plumbing Code, the 2018 Residential Code and the 2018 International Fire Code. However, the adopted state energy code will remain as the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code. Also, there are some SC state modifications to these 2018 ICC codes which are viewable in the link to the left..
