Clearly our natural resources are quite limited and increasingly scarce as civilization grows in number and demands.  It is vital for future generations that we seek ways to conserve, protect, and (where possible) to rebuild/replenish.  We view our responsibility toward prudent and informed engineering design as one way to contribute toward the vital effort of conservation.  However, beyond this overarching practice is the need for each person to reach beyond with our personal daily efforts and support of organizations which endeavor the goals of conservation on a much larger scale.  In the Upstate South Carolina area we believe strongly in the work of Upstate Forever, and WGBES has been a contributing member of this organization for the past few years.  Organizations such as Upstate Forever and The Nature Conservancy seek to protect large tracts of land with permanent, binding land trusts through purchase and donation.

Conservation must reach into every part of our daily life; it should inform all decisions with regard to our consumption of energy and goods, recycling efforts, disposal of wastes, use of our land and waters, and all efforts to make our space truly better.
